Assistive Technology & 21st Century Learning
With over 400 assistive technology products on the market knowing what is right for your students and how to implement it within your classroom can be quite the challenge. We will discuss the unique variables (i.e. internet bandwidth) that act as barriers to effective use. You will leave this session with knowledge of various programs, software, and tools that your students can use both in and outside of the classroom.

Psychoeducational Assessments
Learn how to read and understand a psychoeducational assessment. Learn what the different terms such as fluid reasoning, working memory, and visual-motor-integration mean. You will leave this session with an understanding of how to use the assessment recommendations to better support your students.

Caring for the Educator
Teachers and educators have long to-do lists, and self-care practices routinely fall to the end of the list, if in fact they make it on at all. This workshop supports teachers and educators in tackling work stress and burnout, by providing a framework to enhance understanding of its warning signs and hidden symptoms. The extended, half-day format is designed to provide an in-depth introduction to compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma and to provide tools and resources that address these experiences. The workshop combines instruction and collaborative discussions and activities. Participants will be guided to develop a personal wellness plan that they can use to support themselves and their colleagues to do the work they love.

Classroom Management & Cooperative Learning
Teaching is a challenge when you have 30 unique learners sitting in front of you. Getting all those individuals to listen, work independently, and cooperate in groups can be a daunting task. We will examine why some students disengage, cause distractions, lack academic motivation, and what can be done to help encourage student involvement through the use of differentiated instruction, errorless behavioural management programs, and targeting student stressors. You will leave this sessions with practical strategies that you can implement in your classroom immediately.

It is an exciting time to be an educator! Learn how to effectively teach literacy in the classroom by exploring how student academic skills develop over time, what effective instruction looks like, and how to create a structured program. You will leave this session with evidence-based resources that will allow you to continue your journey towards becoming a highly effective teacher.

Empirically Validated Assesments
Do you ever wonder where your students level of reading, spelling, or math is? Curriculum based measures (CBM) provide you with 1 to 5 minute tests that assess if a student is developing typically (at grade level) or if they are falling behind. With our years of experience using CBM’s in Northern Ontario, we will help you use these tools to collect data that will inform ability grouping in your classroom, and identify students that need extra help. These tools can also be used to drive the level of instruction to ensure that students are receiving the right level of instruction.
